Licensed Practical Nurse Program

Licensure to Practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse

Keystone Nursing Academy’s licensed practical nursing program is designed to prepare students to practice as professional licensed practical nurses. Keystone Nursing Academy students who successfully complete all requirements for graduation will be eligible to apply to the Indiana State Board of Nursing for licensure examination.Our faculty members are experienced nurses with a passion for teaching. They bring a wealth of knowledge and real-world experience to the classroom, ensuring that our students receive a comprehensive education that prepares them for success.

Graduate Outcomes

Upon completion of the practical nursing program, graduates of Keystone Nursing Academy will be prepared to:

  1. Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the goals, health outcomes, and nursing care of clients while practicing within the legal boundaries of the profession. 
  2. Demonstrate appropriate communication modalities to collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement a client-centered plan of care. 
  3. Demonstrate competent clinical judgment by utilizing evidence-based practice to provide safe and efficient client-centered care and take personal responsibility for nursing actions by accepting only those delegated tasks for which the individual is prepared, qualified, and licensed to perform.
  4. Prioritize the implementation of interventions by collecting and incorporating assessment data and good time management to provide care. 
  5. Provide preventative interventions by connecting the client with resources for healing, health promotion, and health maintenance, and assist the client to establish, reevaluate, and modify health goals.
  6. Model professionalism while incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion into client-centered, compassionate care. 
  7. Maintain the privacy, confidentiality, and dignity of all clients while providing compassionate, culturally competent, and non-discriminatory care.
  8. Continue to pursue educational opportunities as a means of sustaining and growing competence within the nursing profession and pursue direction from fellow members of the health care team as needed when implementing nursing practices.
  9. Identify unprofessional behaviors or actions which may endanger the safety and health of clients and notify the appropriate governing body.
  10. Incorporate a broad base of scientific knowledge to develop competent clinical judgment and successfully complete the practical nursing licensure examination.

 Our training program is Indiana Department of Health approved. The approval is based on compliance with federal regulations, state rules and meeting administrative standards. In addition, our program utilizes the Indiana Nurse Aide Curriculum which establishes course standards.   The nurse aide training program consists of a minimum of 3

In addition, our program utilizes the Indiana Nurse Aide Curriculum which establishes course standards.   The nurse aide training program consists of a minimum of 30 hours of  traditional classroom or online equivalent instruction and 75 hours of clinical instruction.

Certified Nurse Assistant

 Qualified Medication Aides are trained in medication administration, observing/reporting side effects and with extra training, insulin administration.  A QMA works under the direct supervision of a Registered or Licensed Practical Nurse. The Qualified Medication Aide training program consists of 60 hours of  traditional classroom or onli

 Qualified Medication Aides are trained in medication administration, observing/reporting side effects and with extra training, insulin administration.  A QMA works under the direct supervision of a Registered or Licensed Practical Nurse. The Qualified Medication Aide training program consists of 60 hours of  traditional classroom or online equivalent instruction and 40 hours of clinical instruction.

 In addition, a QMA must obtain six (6) hours of medication related inservice education each year.

The Insulin Administration module is an optional training for current and future QMAs. The training program consists of 4-8 hours of classroom training and 2-4 hours of practical training with 1:1 supervision from a licensed Registered Nurse.
